What Does the Sea Mean in the Book of Genesis?

✦

The Sea represents the sequence of experiences that appears in our lives. This sequence of experiences forms a process for us, which we experience in the present, because after the definitions of time, only the experience that is presently appearing can be perceived.

The definition of the Sea follows the definitions of time. This is highly significant and revealing. Based on our previous analyses, only the previous definitions exert a limiting influence on the appearance of a new definition.

Experiences become a process after the definitions of time because, without time, it would not be possible to distinguish them from one another.

The present moment within time is the Firmament, or Ceiling, while in space it is the Dry Land — the experience that is presently perceptible to consciousness.

During the six cycles of creation, God defined every law and declared that He would create no further definitions. According to the description, the world exists in its entirety. However, knowing what exists is only possible if perception is limited. If we perceived everything in both space and time, we would not be capable of comprehending anything of reality.

The perception of consciousness is limited to the present, and in space it is also limited according to the sensitivity of our senses. Although the world exists in its entirety, knowing becomes possible because we are able to perceive the world in a defined sequence, at a defined rate, and within a defined spatial scale.

The Seas represent that part of reality which we are not capable of perceiving because it is not in the present. The past and the future exist, but we are capable of perceiving only the Dry Land. We can experience in the present what exists — what is presently appearing to our senses.

For us, the past and the future exist only as the imagined past and the imagined future. Moreover, we are capable of imagining them only to the extent that our previous experiences have provided us with knowledge of the world. Every law that God defined influences the appearance of reality; therefore, every law is present in reality. However, we can imagine the past and the future only on the basis of the laws that we have already come to know. Therefore, they cannot be identical to what actually exists.

The Seas, therefore, are, in practice, the events of the past and the future, which appeared as experiences for people in the past or will appear as experiences in the future. The Dry Land emerging from the Seas is the experience that is presently appearing in our lives.
